The Good News
We won and winning is good. 1-3 would not have been a nice place to be, especially after such high pre-season expectations. We are now 2-2 and suddenly a spot in our first 22 looks of value.
4 goals apiece to our recon boys was my most pleasing part. Bobby and Darcy had struggled in our first three games, I did not expect such a quick turnaround. Darcy was in vintage form early, kicking 3 in the first quarter. Some of his ruckwork really demonstrated the difference between a player who simply wins a hitout and one who is actually effective with it. Having a power forward like Darce playing deep gave us structure going forward, we got a few scoring opportunities out of him just being in the contest. Makes a player like Higgins much more dangerous.
Bobby looked like the player so valuable to our structure. At his best, Bobby makes our game style look more than viable. He offered a constant target, was clever and ended up with the tangible reward of 4 goals. Most importantly, they are finally warranting their spots in my dream team. Go Viking Quest FC, Go! (Free cyber hug for the first person to correctly guess the team name's origin).
Scott West, what can I really say? The kid can play.
It's two from two for Harris. The Tigers gave Richo plenty of opportunities, great effort from Harris considering the constant pressure he was under.
Jordy does it again. The most underrated player on our list in this charismatic, young blogger's fine opinion.
Tommy Williams actually played a game for us. I don't care that he hardly had an impact, to see him in a pair of footy boots instead of a moon boot is reward enough.
Terry Wallace is the Coach of the Tigers and they are 0-4. That's pretty cool.
The Bad News
We only play Richmond once this year. I'd add unless we meet them in the finals, but that's rather absurd. So instead I will still mention it, but only in a mocking manner. That's what the kids call subtle comedy.
The bottom of our blue numbers can be hard to pick out. Other than that, I am bad newsed out after the last couple of weeks.
Rocco's final few words of wisdom
We have hope again and that's just peachy. Cross, Aker and Sam Power to come back in short term as well as Hahn, who shouldn't be too far off. Our forward structure looks a little more viable and Wight/Harris combo down back looks strong. Have the Hawks next week, really the type of game we have to win. Hopefully the win will give us the confidence needed to play our attacking, run at all costs game style. Without it, we are a very average side.
