I bought a copy of Unleashed (like all good Bulldog supporters) for my father for Christmas one year a while ago. Whilst i was at the Bulldog shop, Brett Montgomery was there. "Want me to get a few of the boys to sign it for you?" was his question.
That is the kind of person Monty is. Friendly, kind, good natured. He busted his arse to become and AFL footballer and will leave the game a Best and Fairest Premiership player with two clubs.
For years i annoyed my brother by jumping on his back and shouting "MONTY!" as i pretended to take a hanger just like the one he took against the Bombers one night in the late 90's.
I remember him kissing the Bulldog after kicking a late goal that sealed a Victory at Optus Oval.
I remember him being just being an all round great guy who would always say g'day.
Despite being knocked out in the Elimination Final last year, he got up and kicked 4 goals to end Collingwoods season and prolong ours. That game more than any other moment typifies for me, what Montgomery was as a player. Knocked down, but not out.
Monty, i am more than happy to see you end your career a Bulldog. Ending things in a Teal, Silver and Black (seriously, wtf?) jumper just wouldn't have been right.
