Foreplay: Round 6 vs West Coast

at the selection table- No change for the Eagles. DFA comes in for Robbo to give us an extra runner.

last time we met (only including home and away because finals are stupid)- we beat them by 9 points at Subi, Eade calling it his best ever non-finals victory as a player or coach (taken over by Adelaide win a couple of weeks later). I’d give you some groovy stats, but the Nazis at pro-stats now demand you pay to view stats from last season.

a guy that played for both clubs- Doogs!

why we love to beat them- they are so evil, they would get refused entry on the Death Star on the grounds of being too evil *boom tish*.

key match ups- Judd and Kerr are obviously guns, but their specific strengths make them even harder to match up on. Kerr is the best phone booth player in the league and Judd’s explosiveness makes them just about unstoppable. Harm minimisation time, really need our guys to create their own damage.

In addition to their strong offensive arsenal, Eagles have quality stoppers in Selwood and Stenglein, going to be a tough day for their respective opponents

Glass is the best full-back going around in my opinion; hopefully Darcy can offer us something in the match up. Johnno and Bobby really need to have a big game on a ground that should suit them.

We seem to match up well against the Eagles due to their willingness to outrun sides. Key to our decent success over the Eagles has been the rebound we have received from defence. Their forward line is their weak link; we really need to expose it. Lynch is huge for their structure; keeping him quiet will really hurt them. It’s the type of match up that Harris struggled with last season and keeps him from going to the Glass/Rutten level.

They will bring in pinch hitters like Hunter, Wirrpanda and Embley, Morris is in for a big day.

the prediction- We are just about the 2nd best side at Subi, too bad we have to play against the best. To beat them, we need to outrun them. We need a massive increase in work rate from our runners, cannot afford to carry players. I think the Eagles are increasingly becoming a better side without the ball, as well as outrunning, they have ability to suffocate us.

I struggle to see how we will stop Kerr and Judd, they compliment each other so well in the guts. Cox is getting back to his best and with Seaby as his deputy; it will be hard to remain competitive with them in the ruck.

I think we will need our defence to massively expose their forward line and a huge performance from Johnno (or Bobby) up forward. We can do it, but the Eagles are definitely the safe bet

Eagles by 5 goals for me.
